A medical doctor, Azubike Okara of
the General Hospital, Emohua, in Port-Hacourt, Rivers State has been kidnapped. This is coming barely 24 hours after the
Nigeria Medical Association issued a threat to take a drastic action in protest
against the attacks on its members. It
was gathered that the latest victim, Okara was kidnapped while on duty at the
Emohua General Hospital, Rivers State.
The Chief medical Director of the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board,
Doctor O.N. Iragunimah confirmed the incident to DAILY POST. Dr. Iragunimah said, “Even at war times, medical personnel are spared immediately they are
identified. So, in a situation where doctors are shot and kidnapped is the
worst that can happen in these periods.
“Something
has to be done to arrest this situation or many people will die because doctors
will go on strike. Doctors will have to run for their dear lives. We have got information that Dr. Azubike
Okara of the General hospital in Emohua has been kidnapped while on his duty
post”.
“Gun men stormed the Hospital, shot two doctors who were with him and took him
away. I think this is the height of it”.
