Just few days
after a 3-year-old shot himself after finding his mother’s gun in her purse, a 4-year-old boy
living just a few miles away in the same county in Texas has equally
died in the same manner. Codrick Beal, 4, was being cared for by
the family’s babysitter at her home when he found her gun and shot himself. His
mother, Ashley Beal, had left the boy with the babysitter to go out and
celebrate her birthday with friends. “It’s just a terrible accident,” Leticia
Beal, a cousin of Ashley Beal, said in tears. “We see it all the time on
the news but you never think it’ll hit home. It’s the most horrible thing.”
After paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital, they
returned to the home to get the babysitter, who was having convulsions while
grieving over the shooting. Harris County police officers are now investigating
the incident. No charges have been filed at this point in time. The name of the
caretaker has not been released, but she is believed to be a family friend of
the Beal’s.
The Beal family is devastated over the death of Codrick, who
was an only child. Keith Beal, mother Ashley Beal’s uncle, had the
following to say: “He was a loveable baby…Very funny, he loved to play around
all the time. He just had so much life in him, he was always a happy baby.”
