Boy kills and robs his grandfather so he can buy tattoos, shoes and a phone
A Chicago 19-year-old fatally shot his namesake, his 72-year-old grandfather, and robbed him so he could buy tattoos, shoes and a cellphone, police said.
William Strickland allegedly shot the elder William Strickland six times in the back after the man left his home to catch a van service to his dialysis appointment. The elderly man died just steps from the South Side home he shared with his greedy grandson, neighbors told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The younger Strickland had no criminal record but is an admitted gang member. The teen is seen with several neck tattoos in his mug shot. The only word visible on his black T-shirt is “lazy.”
Friday’s arrest came nearly a month after the heinous crime. Police said the semiautomatic handgun used in the crime belonged to the elder Strickland. The younger man allegedly stole the gun and turned it on his grandfather for the man’s wallet, police said.
Strickland was charged Friday with first-degree murder and armed robbery with a handgun. The teen was denied bond.
It is not known how police were led to the teen.
Family and friends told the local paper the elderly man had just retired after 30 years of working at a steel mill and cared enough for his teenage grandson to offer him shelter.
